I’ve always been an animal person, and now is no exception.  What does an artist do for fun???? Dogs!!!..Since graduate school, I’ve had 3 dogs. Yma, a mixed breed, Zymbo, an Ibizan Hound & Vinnie, another Ibizan Hound. Yma was great preparation for having Ibizan Hounds.  She passed away a year and a half ago at the grand old age of 14 and a half. My 2 male Ibizans are aged 9 and 5 years old. Why was Yma such great prep for an Ibizan Hound????? For starters, she was an extremely destructive puppy and terribly fun-loving at the same time. She grew up to be an escape artist, & extremely alpha female, which equipped me with 2 things that totally prepped me for Zymbo & Vinnie. 1) 3 years of obedience classes (EVERY Thursday night for that time), which taught me to deal with a hard headed, determined & smart dog. 2) a six- foot fence.

Ibizan hounds are great with kids.....not so great on the small furry critter population (I have a mini-squirrel graveyard over my back wall. ) They also look out alot for those small furry critters...many Ibizan owners find that the paint usually gets worn off the window sills from the dogs jumping up and looking out.  I was WAY too picky about refinishing stuff before we moved in......I know better now!

When I get around to it, I’ll post the pluses and minuses of the breed.  Obviously, I adore them--they’re a perfect fit for me!!
