ReaL  ArT!!??

What is “real art” is definitely a topic for discussion, but for me, it’s my work that is semi-serious (I can’t really say serious, since most of this stuff is somewhat tongue in cheek), and doesn’t involve the dog stuff.  Usually, my real art is designed to make you think.  I quit painting for a while because I had problems resolving or harnessing my exuberant use of color, but I resolved it or at least turned it into an asset, I hope. Due to the fact that most of my great new ideas are coming in the form of fused glass jewelry, it’ll be a while before I add new oil paintings to the roster. Enjoy!!

Cause and Effect (3)

“Cause & Effect”, oil, mixed media on panel ,  this painting as well as the next, I consider to be breakthough paintings in my art..

This is another of my favorite paintings. It’s a 5’x 10 foot mixed media oil painting on sized stonehenge paper fixed to wooden panel. Why is it my one of my favorites??? Colors, size, subject matter (what a cool cow!! & Yes she is real!!) & the fact that this is a pivotal painting in my work in that I learned how to work with Dorland’s wax medium.  This painting has been thickly layered & textured with oil paint mixed with wax medium, as well as embedding archival painting board torn to add extra texture.

I painted it in response to our vulnerability as humans to nature. In recent years, where I live has been pommelled with wildfires, tropical storms & hurricanes.  I live in a small town in N. Florida in the middle of the state, not a beachfront community by any stretch of the imagination!
